Dems Sole Leader
So much is made in the news of the status of the GOP. They appear to be leaderless and in turmoil after losing the election and seats in the General Assembly. Several names are being floated around as to who will challenge President Obama in 2012. However it would appear that with the exception of President Obama, the Democrats would be in the same position. Minus the appeal and approval rating of President Obama, one would be hard pressed to find the next leader of the party. Vice President Biden seems to stick his foot in his mouth just about as many times as he opens it. His leadership ability seems to be very shaky at best. Speaker Pelosi is having her own problems with what she knew about the interrogations going on during the Bush Administration. Harry Reid doesn't have a very favorable rating either. You really have to do some research to find the next leader of that party as well. So when compared, the Republicans are not that much worse off than the Democrats minus the President. What are your opinions of the next leader of either party?

US Supreme Court Nominee
There is so much going on in the news right now. The US Senate is about to begin confirmation hearings on Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. Of course there is much debate along party lines about her qualifications and statements she has made in the past that are deemed controversial. I see it like this. What do the Republicans expect? A Democratic President is going to nominate someone to the Supreme Court with similar liberal views. In actuallity, many of her rulings that I have read about seem to fall more in the moderate category. I do not like the fact that she has made some rulings based on empathy, I think the best Judge is someone that rules based on the law and not on feelings. I do like the fact that she has a history of being more of an oral arguer in the court. She likes to engage attorneys appearing before her in oral debate which I think gets to the heart of matters and gets the facts out in the open. That is a positive trait. In summary in Ms. Sotomayor we will get someone that seems to rule like the Judge she will be replacing on the bench if confirmed. No loss as far as votes on the Supreme Court. No gains, if you're Republican either, but that should be expected with a Democratic President.
